Romantic Surprise Proposal along the East coast in St. John’s

Over the last ten years I’ve had the pleasure of photographing some memorable sessions. And this one is no exception. R + D live in Ontario but have family in Newfoundland and wanted to take some couples portraits while they were here. A few days before the session D reached out and asked if I would be okay with him proposing during their session. My answer was of course, yes! It is always such an honor to be a part of such a special moment between two people.

Leading up to the session I was emailing each of them seperately, R to discuss clothing options and D to discuss the plan for his proposal. We decided that it would be best to do it as a surprise right at the beginning of the photos. Once the plan was set, we were at the mercy of the weather.

Thankfully, the day came and it was perfect outside. The spot I picked was one I knew wouldn’t be very busy. They were up for the hike and within a few minutes of meeting me, D proposed along the cliffs of the atlantic. I’ve got to photograph a few surprise proposals, but this was the most emotional. R had no idea and started screaming and tearing up in excitement. (I may have also shed a few tears behind the camera).

After an outfit change we took a few more photos around the area to celebrate their excitement and engagement. It was such a beautiful evening. And I am so thankful I was a part of it.
