M + J - Intimate St. Pierre Wedding
Destination Elopement in St. Pierre
I first met Juvy and Mike just over a year ago for their engagement pictures. We spent some time adventuring around Quidi Vidi and I could tell right away that they were so in love.
They were originally supposed to get married later this month in Fogo Island, but due to unforeseen circumstances the wedding had to be moved closer and they ended up deciding on June 21st In St. Pierre and Miquelon, France.
If you didn’t know, Newfoundland has a small island on the southern shore that is a part of France. We drove the four hours to Fortune and then it was a bumpy one and a half boat ride to the island. I had heard many stories about it but seeing it for the first time was something else. When you arrive it is like a different world. Everything is like being in Europe and you forget that you are so close to Canada.
We spent the first evening exploring the island trying to find a location for pictures and the ceremony. Then it was time to eat. We went to Le Petits Graviers for dinner and the pizza was the best I’ve ever had. The next morning we awoke to a ton of fog with a chance of it raining throughout the day. Juvy and Mike were so calm and just wanting to spend the day relaxing and taking in the beautiful location.
We did a first look between them at an old fire hall. The brick made for the perfect backdrop to do some pictures. After that we went exploring the downtown. It was so foggy that day that it was hard to see anything but I love the fog and how romantic it made everything look and feel.
After their pictures it was time for their ceremony. They had picked a spot on a cliff that had a view of the city but with the fog it was hard to even see the bride coming down the aisle. As soon as the ceremony started, it began to pour. It was the most romantic ceremony I have ever been a part of. The rain and wind and there clear love for each other was so beautiful and it was such a pleasure to be a part of.
After their ceremony it was time to party. It was held at the Auberge Quatre Temps which was where we were staying. It was such a beautiful space and they did an amazing job with the meals. This was my first time shooting wedding where I spent the weekend with the couple and their guests. It was such an amazing experience and I met such wonderful people. I know I say it often, but I am so grateful to clients who trust me to photograph their wedding
