St. John’s Hiking Elopement

Film/Digital Elopement Along the East Coast Trail in St. John’s, Newfoundland

Last fall I had the pleasure of photographing a super special elopement here in St. Johns. K+B live in Ontario but had visited the island before and fell in love with it and knew it was where they wanted to exchange their vows.

They decided on a date in October and the plans were set. While September/October is technically hurricane season here on the island, we still have lots of sunny days. It’s also a great time of year for a hiking elopement as the temperature is a little cooler. And the fall colours are aways oh so lovely.

We started out the day at their air bnb in Quidi Vidi where they got ready together. We have so many cute air bnb’s on the island that make for the perfect backdrop for your photos.

While it was a sunny day, it was quite windy (70 km winds). So they decided to start out their day with some photos at the rooms. You have to book it in advance, but it is a great (and free) option for indoor photos in St. John’s.

From there, we headed to one of my favorite trails in Flatrock. They exchanged private vows along the cliffs while the waves crashed behind them.

After, we met up with a few of their family members to do a 20 minute uphill hike along the sugarloaf path. With the winds being so strong they had to change their initial plans to be a bit more sheltered from the wind. My biggest piece of advice when planning your wedding in Newfoundland is to be flexible! The weather can be so unpredictable here so it is good to have a backup plan.

After their ceremony we hung out and they celebrated with some cookies from Rocket Bakery.

It was such a beautiful fall afternoon to be a part of.
